USING RADIO
Radio shows are an untapped resource for teachers to use for the development of language skills. Radio stimulates the imagination of the listener and allows the listener to hear the language being used.
WELCOME
Before the time of television and computers, there was radio. Families of the 1930s and 1940s would gather around the radio and listen to their favorite programs. Radio allowed the listener to create the characters and settings in their minds. They saw what they imagined. Today we see what is provided for us. TV viewing is passive and noncreative. We would like to share with you the experience of the theater of the mind. Let’s take a journey back to the “Golden Age of Radio”. We ask that you open your mind, set your imagination free, and enjoy our trip into the past.
This site is meant to be used as a supplement and resource for Radio in the Classroom curriculum. The curriculum is in development and will be available for purchase when completed. In the meantime, feel free to explore the site. Mp3 files on the site are believed to be in the public domain and therefore can be downloaded freely.
The purpose of Radio in the Classroom is to promote the idea of using old radio shows as a means for language development. The concept comes from personal experience and is discussed in the purpose statement. click here to read
